These verses remind us that our identity is found in Christ.

This belief is founded on several key principles that underpin our Christian faith.

1We are created in God’s image

The Bible teaches us that we are created in God’s image. This means we reflect His nature and character and have intrinsic value and worth. Our identity in Jesus Christ is rooted in this fundamental truth, as we recognize that our true identity is not based on our accomplishments or possessions but on our relationship with God.

2Our sin nature

However, as a result of sin, our original identity has been marred, and we have fallen short of God’s perfect standard. Our sinful nature has separated us from God, and we are in need of redemption. This is where Jesus Christ comes in as the solution to our problem.

3Our redemption through Christ

Jesus Christ paid the penalty for our sins and restored our relationship with God through His death and resurrection. As a result, we can now have a new identity in Him, where we are forgiven, and our sins are no longer held against us.

4We are adopted into God’s family

Furthermore, accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior make us part of God’s family. We are adopted as sons and daughters of God, and our relationship with Him now defines our identity.

This means we can access all the benefits of being part of God’s family, including love, acceptance, and protection. “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12)

5The Holy Spirit empowers us

Finally, our identity in Jesus Christ is not just about our past or present but also our future. When we receive Christ, we are also given the Holy Spirit, who empowers us to live a new life. The Holy Spirit helps us to grow in our faith, produce good fruit, and fulfill our God-given purpose.
